Unfortunately, the Spam Museum doesn’t open until noon on Sunday.
We passed a big Hormel factory on the way into town where Spam is apparenty made. We also passed the “Hormel Medical Research Center”, where I can only assume they experiment with the effects of human Spam consumption and look for positive medical benefits of a Spam-filled diet. As of yet, there’s nothing to report…
We’re on the road again. Final destination is Rapid City, South Dakota. Lots more cheesy roadside attractions today!
The last leg of today’s journey included Sparta (the bicycling capital of the US, or so they say) and La Crosse (home of the multi-day Elvis Expo, happening next week! We decided not to stress about getting a hotel reservation ahead of time and ended up with what is very likely the second to last hotel room in town. The first five places we tried were all full. Reservations are worth the effort.
We just spent an hour driving around Chicago and are now heading west to visit a cousin who lives in the burbs before continuing on to Wisconsin.
We just stopped for an early lunch at the Mecca of hot dog bundom…featuring hundreds of buns signed by the most famous of famous. A hot dog and chili mac later, it’s on to Chicago.
We’re on the road to Toledo now and then off to Chicago and beyond. Last night on the way from Pittsburgh to Cleveland, we encountered yet another traffic situation. A convoy of buses and police vehicles. As it turns out, it was the Obama campaign which had an event in Beaver, PA yesterday.
We’ve arrived in Cleveland and now have a red roof over our heads. More excitement tomorrow, including celebrity hot dog buns!
